OBS is pleased to announce that, in conjunction
with Whiterock, we now offer Technical Surveillance Counter Measures and
Critical Information Defence. We all know that, on a daily basis, there
are reports of instances in which the security of major companies, international
organisations, government departments, prominent individuals and VIPs
has been breached via covert listening devices and cameras and through
the interception of telephone, facsimile and data transmissions.
MOBILE PHONE SECURITY TIPS Mobile phones are everywhere and many people do not realise just how much they are worth because they receive them free on pay monthly deals, but replacing them when they are lost or stolen can be an expensive process. As such it is better to protect your phone and the information which it contains at all times and there are a few key security tips to follow if you want to avoid identity theft and fraud. Smart phones are equipped with large internal storage drives and advanced connectivity that allows them to access the internet and perform a wide number of actions. This includes making purchases, viewing work emails and accessing social networking sites. If you lose your smartphone or it is stolen you will be opening up your world to any malicious parties that get their hands on it, so for basic protection it is sensible to activate your phone's PIN, password or phone locking system. There are different systems depending on which smartphone you choose, but they range from simply entering a predetermined PIN right up to fingerprint recognition. Just by locking your phone with a secure password you will make it much harder for thieves to get hold of your personal information, particularly if they have been opportunistic in their acquisition of your mobile. If your going to be using your phone for both business and pleasure then you could not only put your data at risk, but potentially compromise client information and business secrets. Business users are targeted by more sophisticated gangs and a simple PIN may not deter them, so you may consider encrypting the data on your mobile. There are several vendors who can provide this service and it is best to contact the IT department and ask about this if you work in a larger organisation, but it is possible for individual mobiles to be encrypted where necessary. This will make it difficult for even the most advanced criminals to get at your data and it could be the best way to secure your mobile phone. There are several mobile phone applications and providers who offer a service on certain smartphones that allows you to locate them once they have been lost and stolen. This takes advantage of the GPS features sported by most modern smartphones and can be incredibly useful if you want to identify where your phone is. Some criminals will turn off your phone, rendering this service useless, but this is not a certainty. You can also use these services to activate a remote wiping tool which completely deletes all of your personal data stored on your mobile. This might be a pain for you, but it is better than letting your data make its way into the wrong hands. Business people are not the only ones who need to fret over the security of their mobile phones, as public figures and celebrities have become targets for theft, as well as embarrassed after losing smartphones. The likes of the iphone and the blackberry are comon celebrity accessories and thankfully most of the tools mentioned above will keep prying eyes away from data. Those with particularly high profiles might delegate the management of mobiles down to a personal assistant, which means a responsible party will be charged with its protection.
